I had the pleasure of representing Faithful Action on Climate Change at the Big Tent meeting in St. Louis July 6-8th.  Most of the focus of Big Tent was on our denominational anti-racism work, but a group assembled in one workshop to hear about Collaborative Approaches to Climate Change. All present in the workshop agree that climate change is real, largely caused by fossil fuel burning and gas emissions, and having devastating consequences already on vulnerable peoples, non-human species, and environments on land and sea.  Fossil Free PCUSA reminded us of the urgency of taking action to reduce the threat of climate change; it proposes divestment from fossil fuel stocks as a moral imperative. Mission Responsibility through Investing described their ongoing work of engaging corporations to influence their transition toward renewable energy, and a host of other good business practices that affect their labor forces as well as consumers.  Faithful Action is very supportive of MRTI’s work We are also interested in promoting multiple ways for us as consumers to change our behaviors.  The Earth Care Congregations program of the Presbyterian Church (USA) is one entry point for congregations of any size to become better stewards of our earth. Go to  https://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/environment/earth-care-congregations/   and begin the certification process. You will find many paths and opportunities to raise awareness and capitalize on your congregation’s energy and enthusiasm for Earth Care.

Peace to you in the important work of creation care,

Rev. Deborah Meinke, Faithful Action on Climate Change
